What is a PHO?
A PHO (Physician Hospital Organization) is a vehicle that enables hospitals and physicians to work cooperatively toward accomplishing several objectives. Primary purposes for forming a PHO are developing improved methods of health care delivery; overseeing integration of physicians and hospitals into health delivery networks; assisting in voluntary group formation; and collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information. Secondary purposes include contracting with managed care organizations with joined risk sharing, developing standards of care, and building stronger relationships between hospitals and independent practitioners

If you are Interested in becoming a member of our PHO you can fill out the Uniform Credentialing Application Form located on the West Virginia Insurance Commission's web site.

Membership Benefits
Our PHO has signed a variety of contracts on behalf of its network of over 200 practitioners and four facilities. We currently have eleven different health plans covering approximately twenty thousand covered lives. Under most PHO contracts,PCV has "delegated credentialing," which means that member physicians are not required to submit detailed participating provider applications to each of the multiple health plans with which PCV has contracted. Instead, submission of one credentialing or re-credentialing (at least, every three years) application to PCV is all that is required. PCV, in turn, communicates all needed information to each of the contracted health plans. Increased referrals "Center of excellence" contracts are often promoted by health plans, resulting in increased referrals of health plan members to PCV physicians. PCV Plan Participation Directory is a reference document facilitating patient referrals within PCV membership, for members of health plans contracted by PCV, as well as those not contracted by PCV.
